Engineered to AS/NZS standards, custom tunnel lining trolleys were deployed for Australia’s largest metro project, overcoming complex geology and strict settlement controls beneath a bustling city center.

Project Details

As the largest public transport infrastructure initiative in Australia’s history, this mega-project features an extensive network of underground twin tunnels and massive station caverns. Navigating highly variable geological conditions beneath a bustling metropolitan center, the project demanded unprecedented engineering precision and strict settlement control. Among the vast underground network, the central interchange cavern presented the ultimate engineering challenge, pushing structural safety and construction standards to the absolute pinnacle in the Southern Hemisphere.

Collaborating closely with a premier professional Italian tunnel design team, GOWE’s technical department delivered a world-class engineering solution manufactured strictly in accordance with stringent Australian production standards (AS/NZS).

GOWE optimized the travel and propulsion systems so effectively that the tunnel lining trolleys advanced smoothly and precisely, completely eliminating interference with the track-slab pouring and excavation works being carried out concurrently in adjacent sectors.

When it came to cross-passages and transitional vaults with variable cross-sections, GOWE deployed heavy-duty travellers featuring structures that were fully pre-assembled at our logistics and manufacturing center. This off-site pre-fabrication strategy guaranteed full compliance with strict Australian quality control protocols, streamlined the on-site erection process, and saved critical path time for the project schedule.
